Sunrise Over Second Roach Pond

Voting opened this week for Down East‘s 10th Reader’s Photo Contest. I entered one image in each of the contest’s three categories: Landscape, Wildlife, and Lifestyle.

This photo, my entry into the Landscape category, was from my recent solo gravel biking trip in Maine’s 100 Mile Wilderness. (More about that in an upcoming journal post.) I stayed in a bunkhouse at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Medawisla property on the first night of my trip. The next morning, I woke up at dawn and took a short stroll from the bunkhouse down to Second Roach Pond, where an orange sunrise was burning off the early morning mist.
